That deadline was in place for the department to launch a revamped unemployment compensation benefits computer system. Lawmakers want to know where that stands and why the deadline was missed.Members of the House are also questioning the status of benefits for thousands of Pennsylvanians who have repeatedly been unable to file their claims. Acting L&I Secretary Jennifer Berrier has said previously that the federal government is partially to blame for delays.“We have to wait for final guidance on, you know, it would be a serious waste of our time to put certain things in place until they’re finalized by the federal government,” Berrier said during a Tuesday news conference.Officials have previously found problems with Pennsylvania’s unemployment system. A 2017 audit by the state determined that the computer system at that time was “woefully outdated.”
