Many News 8 viewers are asking: What do I have to do to get the COVID-19 vaccine? We hear your questions, and 8 On Your Side Responds. Over the next couple of weeks, we’re devoting our investigative team to get you answers. In this article, we’re showing you how to schedule your coronavirus vaccination by taking you step-by-step through the process by using an online signup created by one health system.Go to MyWellSpan.com and log in, then select “Appointments.”One of the options will be the COVID-19 vaccine first dose. Choose that.If you’re between 16 and 65, you’ll be prompted to answer a few questions.“It will ask you if you have any of the conditions as per the state of Pennsylvania that would make you at high risk for severe disease, which would put you into this category,” said Dr. Mark Godecker, of WellSpan Health. The site will also ask if you’re a WellSpan patient. Even if you aren’t, you can still get the vaccine through WellSpan.Next, you’ll see the 20 different WellSpan offices across the Susquehanna Valley that are currently giving the vaccine.“You can select from any of those. It will, based on your location, tell you how far away it is from where you live or where you’re actually on your device,” Godecker said.Once you pick a location, the next available appointment will be listed, along with other options.“It gives you all the available times. You can select any time from this list,” Godecker said. You can also opt to join a waitlist. You’ll get a message if an earlier appointment becomes available.Right now, WellSpan is scheduling two months out.WellSpan and other health systems are working with the state and federal government to make sure there is enough vaccine to go around, but there is a possibility your appointment could be canceled if supplies aren’t what they expect.“We want to make sure that people do understand that going forward. We continue to work on a weekly basis, and really a daily basis, with the state to make sure that we are able to get vaccine orders,” Godecker said.Because so many people are interested in getting vaccinated, the WellSpan website may operate slowly. If you don’t have a computer or don’t feel comfortable scheduling your appointment online, WellSpan also has a toll-free number: 1-855-851-3641. The information hotline operates daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.WellSpan’s online vaccination portal is the first, but other health systems in the Susquehanna Valley are working on them.If you have a question about the COVID-19 vaccine, you can ask the 8 On Your Side team by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
